Ten Simple Tips for Passing the Driving Test

While statistics show 1 out 2 people would pass their driving test first time. There are still many tips, on how to prepare for the driving test. DTC UK has 10 top tips which can help you when learning to drive and preparing for the driving test. Following these great tips will surely lead you on the correct path on passing your driving test.

1) Driving Instructor

It’s important to be with an instructor you feel comfortable with. Ideally, choose an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor) By law, a qualified instructor must display their certificate in the windscreen of the tuition vehicle.

2) Practical Test centre

DTC UK would recommend booking a driving test in the area where you are most comfortable. Driving around the first few roads around the test area will help you feel calmer. Check if your local test centre is a toilet. Many do not!

3) Arrange Mock Test

Ask your instructor to do conduct a mock driving test. Better still, if your instructor is part of a company, ask them to arrange a mock test with a colleague. This will be a practice run of the driving test. If there are any mistakes, your instructor can help you rectify your mistakes.

The driving test consists of 5 different parts which you’ll be tested on. This includes Eyesight test, Show me, Tell me questions, General driving ability, and the Independent section. Reversing your vehicle and the Independent Section.

4) Take Regular Driving Lessons

You should take as many lessons as you can. If possible, arrange lessons at a different time of days morning, evening, in rush hour and off-peak. Furthermore, try to also take lessons in different weather conditions to help gain experience of driving in different circumstances. Avoid leaving a long gap between lessons. Regular lessons are important.  If you can practice with friends or family, this can also help you progress in your driving. Ensure whoever is accompanying you while practising, does meet the legal requirements. Don’t forget the insurance!

5) Read the Highway Code

Read the Highway Code if you are unsure of any road regulations. This can help you recall the theory, you’ll notice you’ll be more alert, aware of your surrounding and it’ll help you anticipate situations.

6) Eat Healthy before the Test

It is common saying ‘You are what you eat’. Eating unhealthy food can result in feeling horrible or uncomfortable, in result leaving you feeling not well before your driving test. Before the driving test, you should try to eat healthy, no heavy oily, fatty, and spicy foods. Stay hydrated on fluids, avoid any sugar/fizz or caffeine drinks. Being healthy will help you to feel physically and mentally feel better.

7) Eight Hours Sleep

Ensure you do have eight hours of sleep, no more or no less. Human being feels their best after an eight-hour sleep cycle. Sleep any longer and the body goes into another sleep cycle. Waking up midway from a sleep cycle makes a person feel groggy.

8) Listen to Music

Listening to music calms you down. Listening to just 10 minutes of your favourite music will help you feel relaxed and accelerate the learning process. It is advisable to arrive at the practical test centre a few minutes early an=with your headphones.

9) Control those Nerves

Everyone gets nervous to an extent. Getting a little nervous keeps a person alert. However, too much and things can go wrong. Try not to tell too many people about your test. If you fee that nervous sometimes gets the better of you, you can get “over the counter medicine” from your local chemist.

10) Prepare Before Hand

Make sure you know where your provisional license is and avoid taking it out the week before the test. You might just lose it. If you wear glasses for driving, remember to take them with you.

Finally, the team at DTC Driving Test Services wish you all the very best of luck with your driving test.
