Worrall is a small village in rural Bradfield in the civic wards within the boundaries of the city of Sheffield, in the English county of South Yorkshire. It stands on a rising ground, about 230 metres above sea level, and is four miles (6.5 km) north-west of the centre of Sheffield. The village has a land area of 233 ha, with a population of 1,306 people as of 2006. At the 2011 census, this village was in the Stannington ward of the town.

Details of population and village areas are given. Although it is an independent village, Worrall shares a tenuous boundary with the suburbs of Wadsley, Middlewood and Loxley in Sheffield, south and east, and the neighbouring village of Oughtibridge, to the north; and a stretch of countryside extending to the high-lying village of Bradfield, west. Worralls origins date from Viking times, as indicated by the names Towngate Road and Lund Road. It is also situated far away from existing Anglo-Saxon villages like Wadsley, which is fairly common of many Viking settlements.

There is no evidence for any Anglo-Saxon activities at Worrall. It has roots in agriculture, and is mentioned in records as being part of a manor that also included the areas of Ughill and Wadsley. The manor was held by a Saxon chief, Aldene, and included 14 bovates and open woodland, one mile square. The village name is from the Saxon word Hrivfull meaning “top” and this would surely have been appropriate for Worralls high location overlooking the Don and the Loughley Valleys. After the Norman conquest, Worrall is mentioned in the Domesday Book 1086 as being part of land held by Roger de Bushley.

Throughout its history, Worrall was strongly associated with the neighbouring village of Wadsley, lying two km south-west. A particular Jeffrey (“of Worrall”) de la Pole, c.1430-1474, is thought to be associated with Worrall. In 1541, Henry Everingham was named as the manor-lord of both villages in a charter that granted a release from paying some duties, provided tenants paid annual rents. The Worrall manor was transferred in 1557 to the property of Robert Swyft, and later Sir Francis Leeke, before passing to the manor of the Earl of Shrewsbury. In the 18th century, Steads own family manors held properties in Worrall; on his death, Thomas Stead (1728-93) owned 16 properties and 2,000 acres (8.1 km2) of land in different parts of Hallamshire and Sheffield. Throughout this time, Worrall was predominantly a farming community.
