Wolston is a village and civic parish within Rugby Borough, in the English county of Warwickshire. The village is about half-way between Rugby and Coventry, with 2,564 inhabitants as of the 2011 census.
It is near the A45 and Roman Fosse Way. The river Avon runs through the village. Near the river are the remains of Brandon Castle, a Norman motte-and-bailey castle.
A Benedictine monastery, Wolston Priory, is situated east of the village, with the remains of its earthworks now a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The village has two churches: the parish church, St. Margarets, and the Wolston Baptist Church. Wolston was once served by a railway station, Brandon & Wolston Railway Station, on the Rugby-Coventry line, but it was closed in 1960, though you can still see one of the platforms. There are periodic calls for the station to be opened again, with Wolston and Brandon having a combined population of nearly 3000.
One of the most visible features in the village is a railway viaduct dating back to the 1830s, which was part of the original London and Birmingham railway. The viaduct separated Wolston from the smaller village of Blanden. The two share a football club, “Brandon and Wolston Football Club”. They no longer have a senior male team, but they still operate a youth club.
The village contains a primary school (Wolston St Margarets Primary C of E school). St Margarets Primary was originally on School Street, but this building is now used as offices. Wolston also used to have a secondary school called Wolston High School, but this was demolished and replaced by the Community Centre. Wolston has a small library, two pubs (The Rose and Crown and The Half Moon), a convenience store, pharmacy, and a GP practice.
Near to Wolston is the Community-owned Branston Wood. In geology, the village gives its name to the Wolstonian stage, the British regions division in the Pleistocene Epoch.
