Wembley is a major borough of North-West London, United Kingdom, eight miles north-west of Charing Cross. It includes the areas of Alperton, North Wembley, Preston, Sudbury, Tokyngton, and Wembley Park. Wembley was part of Harrow-on-the-Hill parish, in Middlesex, for more than 800 years.

Its centre, Wembley Green, was flanked by farming estates and their villages. Wembleys narrow, little high street was a conservation area.

The London and Birmingham Railway reached Wembley in the mid-19th century, and this is when the site gained its first church. Slightly to the south-west of the old centre, the main station was initially called Sudbury, but is now known as Wembley Central. By the 1920s, a large shopping centre was located on nearby Long Road, Wembley being Londons largest suburban area.

Wembley subsequently, over the course of thirty years, became a substantial outlying area of London, both in terms of its density and its contiguousness. Wembley formed a distinct civic ward from 1894, being made a Borough in the Borough of Middlesex in 1937. In 1965, as local government was being reformed in London, the area was combined with the Municipal Borough of Willesden, separated by the River Brent, to form the London Borough of Brent, one of 32 Local Government Districts in Greater London. The estate of Wembley Park was mostly recreational land when the Metropolitan Railway reached the site in 1894.

It was chosen as a venue for the 1924 British Empire Exposition, which led to development of attractions including the Empire Stadium, later known as Wembley Stadium, which became the iconic football stadium. The suburbs conservation of public parkland, and low-to-medium building density in all areas except for Wembley Parks western tallest buildings, meant that much of Wembley was both part and archetypal of a metroland that was once heavily promoted–mostly Middlesex. After years of controversy, the 1923 ground was replaced with the modernised one, featuring the magnificent, skyline-spanning arches, that opened in 2007; it is the home of Englands national football team, hosts late-stage and/or late stages in annual competitions like the FA Cup, and has the largest capacity nationally. In the early 21st century, a pedestrianised London Designer Outlet shopping centre was built.
