Watford is on the edge of the East England Region to the north-west of London, it is an urban borough in the south-west of Hertfordshire. The Metropolitan Green Belt is formed by 20% of Watford; there are excellent transport links within the borough which includes the mainline rail connections to London. There are also connections to the Midlands and the North by using the underground and Overground connections – these connect to Central London in under 20 minutes. There are also other services available, such as coach services to Heathrow Airport, bus services to Luton/Luton Airport and convnient road connections via the M1, M25 and A41.

Watford has always been a strong location for businesses and different industries. The became very successful and remains successful until this day and is a desirable place to live, work and enjoy leisure time. The demand for houses is high as people are seeking either to buy or rent homes in that area – due to this, both house prices and rent prices have increased in recent years but remain competitive in comparison to London prices.

Are you interested in knowing how other learner drivers perform on their test? Are you worrying about your chances of passing? Currently, in the UK, the pass rate is 45.9%. Please see the table below for Watford’s pass rates for the last five years.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
47.7% 45.9% 49.0% 46.4% 48.8%

Overall, Watford’s pass rates have not been that bad, they have been above the national average pass rate. Do remember though, pass rates is not what will get you through the practical test – only your performance will.

Dual Carriageways

The Watford practical test center is seconds away from the busy A41 dual carriageway which the examiner may take you on. If on a dual carriageway, it is important to remember that you should always stay in the left-hand lane unless overtaking or turning right.

Narrow Residential Roads

Learning to drive in Watford involves challenging residential roads. You will spend a considerable amount of time during you semi intensive driving lessons in Watford particularly, on residential roads. There are many residential roads in the area which can cause a problem with meeting oncoming vehicles and also getting close to parked cars. Whatever the situation, the DTC driving instructor will teach you to use the MSM routine. During your practical test, as soon as you see an oncoming vehicle approaching, the first thing you must do is to check the rear view mirror. After this, it would be advisable to slightly ease off the accelerator pedal as this will allow you time to think and decide.  Bear in mind that the driving test at Watford is based on safety before anything else. Therefore, if you have any doubt about whether to proceed or to stop, it would be advisable to take the side of caution and stop.

Faded road markings

There are a few residential roads with faded road markings that are still visible but you do need to be actively looking out for them. These include give-way lines at small crossroads.
