Wanstead is part of the London Borough of Redbridge and is a town based in East London, England. Wanstead borders four different areas South Woodford to the north, Redbridge to the east, Forest Gate to the south, with both Leystone and Walthamstow to the west. It is 8 miles northeast of Charing Cross.

Epping Forest, the grasslands of Wanstead flats and the woodland of Wanstead Park are some of the very well known open spaces in Wanstead. Wanstead Park was formerly part of the estate of a large stately home which was known as Wanstead House between 1722-1825. This house was built by Richard Child in the 1st Earl Tylney.

A very well known church known as St Mary The Virign was completed in 1790 and is now a Grade 1 listed building and contains a large monument to Josiah Child. On the other hand, Wanstead Train Station opened in 1974 after The Second World War – there was a limit to the construction due to having to replace several hundred bomb-damaged places.

It is natural for everyone to get their hands on pass rates the pass rates at their test center. It does give you some details to work in comparison with other test centers in the country. So here is some information for you the average pass rate in the UK stands at 45.9%, but for London, the pass rates will be lower due to a combination of factors and their pass rates stands at 40.8%. Take a look at Wansteads pass rates below for the last five years.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
32.0% 32.4% 33.4% 35.7% 34.7%

These pass rates are 7% lower than Greater London’s average – Wanstead has not really made a good impression, but do not let that influence you and your motivation. Remember you are your only motivation, and you need to put all your effort in to perfecting your driving so you can pass the test.

Document Checks
On the day of the driving test, It’s important that you take your provisional driving licence to the test as the examiner will need to check that it is valid. You will not need to take your theory certificate as the examiner will be able to check it on the system. Wanstead driving test occasionally starts at 7.13 am when the examiner may not have access to the checking system. It is therefore advisable to have your certificate number just in case.

You will be required to bring a car for the test which is insured for you to drive and have a valid MOT if the vehicle is over three years old. The examiner will not ask you to see any paperwork relating to insurance or MOT as they will be able to check this electronically. If you require an emergency car hire for your driving test, accompanied by a qualified driving instructor, DTC UK can arrange this for you.

Show Me – Tell Me Questions
Part of the driving test involves answering two vehicle safety questions, commonly known as the “show me – tell me questions” You will be asked the “tell me question” at the beginning of the test before driving off. The “show me question” will be asked during the test itself.  If you get the one or even both questions wrong, this will be marked as a minor error and you will not fail the test.

However, a few drivers at the Wanstead test center have been known to fail on the show me questions, not for not knowing the answer, not for losing control of the vehicle while trying to show the examiner the answer. If you forget a particular control, it is better to admit it to the examiner rather than try to bluff it.

Narrow Residential Roads

The Nightingale primary school is very close to the Wanstead practical driving test center. If you test at the beginning of the end of the school day, cause issues with meeting vehicles. As soon as you see an oncoming vehicle approaching, the first thing you must do is to check the rear view mirror. After this, it would be advisable to slightly ease off the accelerator pedal as this will allow you time to think and decide.  Bear in mind that the driving test at Wanstead is based on safety before anything else. Therefore, if you have any doubt about whether to proceed or to stop, it would be advisable to take the side of caution and stop.

Faded road markings There are a few residential roads with faded road markings that are still visible but you do need to be actively looking out for them. These include give-way lines at small crossroads.

There are also some dual carriageways such as the A406 and the A12 that the examiner may take you on. If on a dual carriageway, it is important to remember that you should always stay in the left-hand lane unless overtaking or turning right.
