South Yardley is a mostly residential district of East Birmingham, England, approximately 3.5 miles (6 km) from the centre, and is one of the 69 Electoral Boroughs in the city. Following ward changes by the city of Birmingham in 2017, South Yardley covers a much smaller area. The ward with the same name formerly covered a larger area including Greet, Hay Mills, Little Heath Park, South Yardley, Tayseley, and parts of Yardley and Gilbertstone. The name of the ward was changed from the Acocks Green ward, and with the name change, boundaries changed, losing the villages of Acocks Green and the Acocks Green railway station, with boundaries extended northwards as far as Bordesley Green East.

The area was extended to Gold Hillock Road. This included the area of the smaller Heath Park and the Grete. South Yardley is one of four wards which form the Borough of Yardley Council.

The Swan shopping centre was demolished in 2009 following an extended period of declining trading. It included an enclosed marketplace, which had a multi-storey parking garage.

Proposals to replace the mall in a more modern architecture were approved. Planning permission was granted after Tesco agreed to pay the development a set amount as it is building stores on and near the site. The replacement shopping centre would include a public plaza and petrol station. Councillor Jim Whorwood said it was long overdue for Swans centre to be developed again.

The new Swan shopping centre opened in 2012. South Yardley library is located in the ward. It reopened on 6 May 2008 following a major refit, offering free Internet on 30 computers.
