Reading is located in Thames Valley at the joining of River Thames and Kennet, this is also where The Great Western Main Line railway travels through the town and the M4 motorway also bypasses the town. Reading is a town and is also a borough of the ceremonial county of Berkshire. It is the home of University of Reading, is also a regional retail center and also serves a large area of Thames Valley.

One of England’s biggest music festivals known as The Reading Festival is hosted in Reading every year. Reading dates back to the 8th century and by 1525 was the largest town in Berkshire and was number 10 in the whole of England for taxable wealth. In the 18th century, the Reading started to introduce the brewing trade for which Reading Gradually became famous.

By the late 19th century, The Great Western Railway was introduced and the towns brewing was slowly increasing in development. At the same time baking and seed growing businesses were introduced and the town grew very quickly into a manufacturing center.

Driving test pass rates seem to get the most attention nowadays – this is why we have got together some information and have put it for you down below. Did you know that the average pass rate in the UK is 45.9%. So you may be thinking what about Reading Test Center. Please see the table below, for the pass rates in Reading for the last five years.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
44.6% 46.1% 48.3% 46.4% 47.8%

So as you can see, Reading pass rates are just slightly above and below the national average within the last five years. Do not focus or put all your attention into the pass rates for any test center. After all, you passing on your test, is all down to your skills and ability – so keep practicing until you know you are ready.

The Reading practical test centre has a car park which means that the examiner may ask you to carry out the bay park exercise at the centre itself. This can be requested at the start or at the very end of the test.  The examiner can ask you to reverse into a bay of your choice or you may be asked to drive forward into a bay and then reverse out of it. During your semi intensive driving lessons at Reading, your DTC driving instructor will teach you the bay park in various public car parks.

Reverse Manoeuvres
During your semi intensive driving course at Reading,  you will be taught to reverse safely with due regard to other road users. There are four manoeuvres you will learn during your crash driving course. However, in the actual driving test, the examiner will choose one of them. The four manoeuvres include parallel parking, stopping on the right-hand side of the road and then reversing back, reversing into a bay, and finally driving forward into a bay and then reversing back.

Narrow Residential Roads
The DVSA test center is situated on the outskirts of Reading where you can expect a variety of road and traffic conditions including narrow residential roads, country lanes and one-way roads.
You will spend a considerable amount of time during you semi intensive driving lessons in Reading on residential road. These roads cause a problem with meeting oncoming vehicles and also getting close to parked cars. Whatever the situation, the DTC driving instructor will teach you to use the MSM routine.

Winding Country Lanes – Country lanes are pretty and seem like an easy drive, however, they have their own dangers; often hidden. You may come across vehicles that you would not normally see when you are driving in town such as tractors. You may encounter horses, sheep, and cattle. Furthermore, country lanes are not as well maintained as are the city roads and you may find large potholes. Hitting a pot-pole at high speed can be extremely dangerous. Although the national speed limit on county lanes is 60 mph, you must remember that all speed limits are limits and not targets to be met. The examiner will expect you to drive at a speed at which you can stop within the distance you can see to be clear.
