Mountsorrel is a village in Leicestershire, on the River Soar, south of Loughborough, which had a 2001 population of 6,662 residents, rising to 8,223 in the 2011 census. The village is within Charnwood Borough, surrounds a steep hill, which was once covered with a castle, and is bounded to the east by the River Soar. The village is famous for Buttercross Market, which is situated in the village centre, and also its granite quarries, which are amongst the largest in Europe. The Leicester branch of the Great Union Canal runs through Mountsorrel.

The civic ward meets Rothley in the south, with a few houses effectively being within Rothley ward, close to the A6 south branch. To the west of the parish is the Nature Reserve.

North of this, Leicestershire Round runs east-west across the northern part of the village. The parish boundary meets with the quorndon, where it meets first with a quarry next to Buddon Wood. North of there, it crosses over the former A6, 500 metres (1,600 feet) to Quorn from a traffic junction on the A6. Close to the bypass, the river Soar becomes a parish boundary, and south of the A6s north-western junction, meets the Sileby at the point where it crosses the A6 bypass. Five hundred metres (1,000,600 feet) south of this, the boundary leaves the river westwards, the river becoming the boundary between Sileby and Rothley.
