Kibworth is an area in Harborough District in Leicestershire, England, which contains two civil parishes: Kibworth Beauchamp and Kibworth Harcourt. At the 2011 census, Kibworth Beauchamp had 5,433 residents, while Kibworth Harcourt had 990. The villages are divided by the Midland Main Line. Kibworth is near the locks at Foxton, Market Harborough, and Leicester.

In 1270, Walter de Merton, the founder of Merton College, Oxford, bought much of Kibworth parish from Sair de Harcourt, who had been forced to sell his manor following his support for Simon de Montforts unsuccessful “Second Barons War”. Much of the parish has remained in the ownership of Merton College, Oxford, until today. There is a stained-glass window of Walter de Merton, showing him, on the tower of St. Wilfrids Parish Church, which is jointly sponsored by the College Wardens and Scholars, and by the Bishop of Leicester.

The village school was founded in 1709, endowed by Sir Nathaniel Edwards. Kibworth Harcourt was the birthplace of novelist/reformer Anne Laetitia Barbauld (1743-1825) and her brother, John Aikin. Their father, John Aikin (1713-1780), ran a Dissenting Academy there, as well as serving as the vicar at the nearby Presbyterian chapel. The family moved in 1757 to Warrington. On 23 July 1825, the old tower andspire at St Wilfrids Church fell.

In September 2010, Kibworth was a central feature in The History of England, Michael Woods documentary broadcast by BBC Four, BBC Two, repeated on yesterdays BBCTV and on PBS America, on the history of England as framed through Kibworth. A book by the same name was published by Viking. The series is like Who Do You Think You Are. . The villagers (Kibworth Improvement Team – KiT) created a new website and successfully applied for a PS48,200 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to carry on the legacy of the TV series, creating the Kibworth Heritage Trail (Historic Trails in Kibworth Harcourt, Kibworth Beauchamp and Smeeton Westerby), a number of interpretative panels around the three villages, on-going teaching materials for three levels of the local schools, and a repository (Virtual Museum).
