Iselworth lies east of Hounslow and west of The River Thames – it is a town located within The London Borough of Hounslow. The original settlement of Isleworth which is along The River Thames is known as ‘Old Isleworth’ and it has been a settlement for over 4000 years. Lampton, which is more to the west, north-west corner of town, which borders Osterley is known as Spring Grove.
The main route of transport in Isleworth is the main London Road also known as the (A315) – this follows the route for one of the early roads which were constructed by the Romans. It is mainly Tamesis Street built accross the the wide heathlands which is on route to Silchester from where other roads lead to Bath, Winchester and Salisbury.
Bus operation came into Isleworth in the mid 1800s and electric trams started running in Iselworth in 1901 – this was from a depo situated on the north side of London Road, near the border with Hounslow.
Did you know, that the national average pass rate for the UK is 45.9%, however, the national average pass rate for London is 40.8%. So what about Isleworth’s test center. Please see the table below for Isleworth’s pass rate for the last five years.
2015-16 | 2016-17 | 2017-18 | 2018-19 | 2019-20 |
46.9% | 46.1% | 46.7% | 46.7% | 46.7% |
Isleworth pass rates are not that much lower, in comparison to the UK national average pass rate – but the pass rates have been consistent for the last five years. Overall, there is not much to complain about. You should always remember that these pass rates will not affect the outcome of your driving test – NOTHING IS DECIDED PRIOR YOUR TEST, it is all in your hands.
Located in West London, Isleworth has many small residential roads, full of speed humps. You will find several mini-roundabouts in the Isleworth area.
Narrow Residential Roads
You will spend a considerable amount of time during your semi-intensive driving lessons in Isleworth on residential roads. There are many residential roads in the area which can cause a problem with meeting oncoming vehicles and also getting close to parked cars. Whatever the situation, the DTC driving instructor will teach you to use the MSM routine.
During your practical test, as soon as you see an oncoming vehicle approaching, the first thing you must do is to check the rear view mirror. After this, it would be advisable to slightly ease off the accelerator pedal as this will allow you time to think and decide. Remember that the driving test at Isleworth is based on safety before anything else. Therefore, if you have any doubt about whether to proceed or to stop, it would be advisable to take the side of caution and stop.
Mini roundabouts – There are several mini-roundabouts of the Isleworth driving test route. They often replace T-junctions in quieter residential areas to ease the flow of traffic. The rules at mini-roundabouts are the same as normal roundabouts. However, bear in mind that you would not need the “exit” signal when leaving the roundabout to follow the road, and you would not need the exit signal when turning right. Furthermore, it needs to be mentioned that although you need only give way to traffic on the right and have priority over traffic on the left, priority must be given and not taken.
