Hornchurch is part of The London Borough of Havering and is a suburban town based in East London, England. It is 15.2 miles east-northeast of Charing Cross and is very well known for its high amount of shopping streets and large residential areas. Hornchurch became an urban district in 1926 and since has significantly expanded and increased in population and it also formed itself as part of The Greater London since 1965.
Hornchurch is also the location of the Queen’s Theatre, Havering Sixth Form College, and Havering College of Further and Higher Education. In terms of transport, there are no stations as such in Hornchurch, but there are five different stations located within the town; this includes Upminister Bridge Tube Station which is within its eastern boundary, Hornchurch Tube Station which is located 1/2 mile off the High Street, Elm Park Tube Station which is 1 and 1/2 mile to the southwest on The London Underground, and Emerson Park Railway Station on The London Overground which is located 1/2 mile to the north, last but not least Harold Wood Railway Station on the Great Eastern Main Line to the far north for TFL Rail.
So we know that everyone is interested in the pass rates for practical tests in all test centers. So we took to the DVSA to gather some information. The overall pass rate in UK stands at 45.9%, whilst on the other hand, pass rates in Greater London are slightly lower and stand at 40.8%. So what are the pass rates for Hornchurch. Please see the table below.
2015-16 | 2016-17 | 2017-18 | 2018-19 | 2019-20 |
46.9% | 46.1% | 46.7% | 46.7% | 46.7% |
Hornchurch pass rates have consistently been well over average for Greater London but slightly lower than the national average. We’re pretty impressed with these results and you should be too; however, do not focus on these stats for your test, you need to focus on your own ability too.
Hornchurch is situated on the edge of East London you will find the driving test route for Hornchurch contains both urban and rural roads. The center itself is on the main road and there is no car park. During the independent drive expect to cover a combination of large and mini-roundabouts and dual carriageways.
Winding Country Lanes – Country lanes are pretty and seem like an easy drive, however, they have their own dangers; often hidden. You may come across vehicles that you would not normally see when you are driving in town such as tractors. You may encounter horses, sheep, and cattle. Furthermore, country lanes are not as well maintained as are the city roads and you may find large potholes. Hitting a pot-pole at high speed can be extremely dangerous. Although the national speed limit on county lanes is 60 mph, you must remember that all speed limits are limits and not targets to be met. The examiner will expect you to drive at a speed at which you can stop within the distance you can see to be clear.
Mini roundabouts
There are several mini-roundabouts of the Hornchurch driving test route. They often replace T-junctions in quieter residential areas to ease the flow of traffic. The rules at mini-roundabouts are the same as normal roundabouts. However, bear in mind that you would not need the “exit” signal when leaving the roundabout to follow the road, and you would not need the exit signal when turning right. Furthermore, it needs to be mentioned that although you need only give way to traffic on the right and have priority over traffic on the left, priority must be given and not taken.
20 mph zones
During your driving lessons or even your driving test at Hornchurch, you will come across several 20 mph roads. Many of these have recently had their speed reduced from 30 mph to 20 mph. Bear in mind that a satnav may display the old speed if it has not been updated.
