The traditional way of learning to drive is to take one or two lessons per week. This method is not suitable to for learners who are up to test standard. There are many intensive driving schools which offer fast track courses but without a test at the end. DTC is different. We will book you an emergency driving test, even before we start your fast-track course. Our semi-intensive driving courses have been designed to great results and get you on the road in the least amount of time.

Erith has been part of The London Borough of Bexley since 1965 and is south-east of London, England. It is 13.3 miles east of Charing Cross. The London Borough of Bexley is North-East of Bexley heath and north-west of Dartford which is on the South Bank of The River Thames. Buildings such as The Church of England and The Carnegie Building are on the curved riverside on the High Street. Erith is mostly made up of suburban housing and is linked to Central London and Kent by rail and to Thamesmead by a dual carriageway.

As of 2011, 62% of the population in Erith was 62%; this is down from 82% in 2001. Within Erith, the second highest ethnicity population is Black African which is 14%. Erith has the longest pier in Greater London. It has been adapted from commercial to leisure use and is popular with anglers.

Due to Erith being  a part of Greater London, it is know for being busy and the high amounts of traffic, but do not let that put you off from learning to drive in Erith.

If any of you, love statistics, then this one is for you. Did you know that on average people in the UK 45.9% chance of passing their driving test? If you are located in London, the chances of passing is much lower which currently stands at 40.8%. So you may be thinking what is the comparison of the pass rates at Erith London. Take a look yourself, at the table below, of the pass rates for Erith in the last five years.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
34.6% 31.8% 30.6% 33.0% 31.6%

Yes, we know, you must be thinking that Eriths pass rates are not as inspiring as you thought they were. But do not worry, we would like to remind you, that at the end of the day, the examiner is testing your ability to drive and not taking a look at the pass rates.

Mini roundabouts

There are more than a couple of mini-roundabouts of the Erith driving test route – they are often there to replace T-junctions in the quieter residential areas to help ease the flow of traffic. However, the rules for the mini-roundabout are the same as normal roundabouts. Just bear in mind that you would not need the ‘exit’ signal when leaving the roundabout to follow the road and you would not need the exit signal when turning right. Moreover, it needs to be mentioned that although you need only give way to traffic on the right and have priority over traffic on the left, priority must be given and not taken.

Independent Drive

The independent drive is not an opportunity for you to program or use the sat nav or even put on cruise control. The examiner can ask you to follow road signs and road markings to a set destination or they can even ask you to follow directions given by  Sat Nav.

In the independent driving section of the practical test, you will need to identify that you are approaching a roundabout and then you need to decide when to start the Mirror, Signal & Maneuver routine.

If you’re unsure as to where you are going, you can ask the examiner. The driving examiners at Erith will not mind and will willingly help you. This is because they know that you have identified the roundabout in good time and want to start the MSM routine. Having said this, if you reached the roundabout and then asked the examiner which direction you were going, they would not help you because, at that point, you may already be in the wrong position to turn where the examiner wanted you to go.

Document Checks

On the day of the driving test, It’s important that you take your provisional driving license to the test as the examiner will need to check that it is valid. You will not need to take your theory certificate as the examiner will be able to check it on the system. Erith driving test occasionally starts at 7.13 am when the examiner may not have access to the checking system. It is therefore advisable to have your certificate number just in case.

Narrow Residential Roads

Due to many residential roads in the area, meeting oncoming vehicles and getting close to parked cars is becoming a problem. But do not worry, the Whatever the situation, the DTC driving instructor will teach you to use the MSM routine.
You will be spending a considerable amount of time during your semi-intensive driving lessons in Erith on residential roads.
