East Langton (derived from an Anglo-Saxon word for an enclosure, meaning “long city”) is a village and civil parish in Harborough County, Leicestershire, England. The parish also includes the township of Church Langton.

It is close to Kibworth and Market Harborough, with the 2011 census giving a population of 393. There is the old Roman road which runs close by, moving south-east from Leicester. It is around 86 miles north of London, 12 miles south-east of Leicester City, and four miles north of Market Harborough.

Altogether, the parish covers an area of 1055 acres, including the whole township of East Langton. Its nearest motorway is the B6047, and the township is directly east. Historically, land in the parish was used mostly for cattle pasture.

East Langton Parish Church was built in 1615, but was subsequently restored in 1866, in an effort to expand its capacity of 287 seats. The site is an ancient borough of Leicester County, which became a modern civil parish in December 1866, when it was separated from Church Langton.

On 25 March, 1885, the parish was reduced in size when “Vendys Cottage” was transferred to the civil parish of Thorpe Langton. On 25 March 1885, this parish increased in size when parts of Thorpe Langton Civil Parish and West Langton Civil Parish were transferred to it. In 1925, the size of this parish was increased even further, as about 63 acres were gained, as boundaries for civil parishes within this district were “adjusted”. Most houses in the parish seem to have been built or rebuilt with bricks in the 19th and early 20th centuries, but some older buildings remain.

The Bell Inn, which is now operating as a bed and breakfast, is a three-bay, masonry structure, with the northern bay rebuilt in brick; the oldest parts are dated from the late 17th century. Its north end was previously the village blacksmiths shop, which is now mostly used to do farm machine work. On the opposite side of the road, an altered gable-roofed cottage, with symmetrical facade and doorcase in the form of a pentagram, is dated to 1724, bearing an initial of JBC. A council housing development was built on the eastern side of the road, post-second world war, housing 50 people at its completion.
