Dunton Bassett is a small village in the Harborough area of Leicestershire, England. It lies between Leicester and Lutterworth, near Broughton Astley, Ashby Magna & Leicester. It had a population of 795 in the 2001 United Kingdom Census, which fell to 759 in the 2011 Census.

The village name means a farmhouse/settlement on the hill. The village was held by Radulfus Bassett in 1166. The Great Central Main Railway, the last major railway line built from northern England to London, opened on 15 March 1899, running directly to the east of Dunton Bassett, and separating it from the village of Ashby Magna, with the provided station bearing the name of Ashby, though this was by far the smaller of the two villages. Dunton Bassett gave its name to a short tunnel (92 yards) south of the station.

The line closed on 5 May 1969. In its final years, it was joined by the M1 motorway, running parallel to it on its east side.

The village has one pub (the Dunton Bassett Arms), a primary school, and a village hall. The village hall was donated to the village by Orson Wright, a successful Leicester-based building contractor, who was born in the village. The combined village store/post office closed in 2018.
