Catcliffe is a village and civic parish on the north-west side of the River Rother, South Yorkshire, England. The civil parish had a population of 2,108 people at the 2011 census. It is within Rotherham Metropolitan Borough, about 2.5 miles (4 km) south of Rotherham Town Centre, and 4.3 miles (7 km) east of Sheffield city centre. Catcliffe is mentioned in the Domesday Book, where the name is assumed to refer either to the cliffs on which cats lived, or the steep banks of the river.

In 1740, William Fenney established a glass factory there. The location was chosen, among other reasons, because it was located 10.5 miles (17 km) away from Fenneys own glassworks at Bolsterstone, which had previously been owned by his mother-in-law: his terms would have prevented him from setting up a glassworks within 10 miles of the town. One of the cones of that glassworks is still standing, and is the oldest surviving structure of its kind in western Europe. It is a Grade I listed building and is a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

On 25 June 2007, the village was evacuated due to fears that a breach of the dam on Ulley Reservoir might cause extensive flooding across the valley. Catcliffe railway station opened 30 April 1900, closing on 11 September 1939. Catcliffe is a civic parish, with local matters managed by the Parish Council, one of 29 such councils within Rotherham Metropolitan Borough. It is within the ward of Brinsworth and Catcliffe, represented (as of 2018) by three councillors, one from each the Labour, Ukip and Liberal Democrat parties. This ward is part of Rotherham constituency, which is no longer a Labour safe seat, and is currently represented in the House of Commons by Sara Champion MP, who has held the seat since a 2012 by-election, when previous incumbent Denis McShane stood down following a expenses scandal.
