Learner drivers are fascinated by pass rates and are always interested in what the pass rates are in their areas. People in the UK have a 45.9% chance of passing their test. Learners located in the East of England have a 46.3% chance in comparison.  Please see Brentwood’s pass rates from the last five years.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
47.7% 45.9% 47.9% 50.8% 50.7%

You could say that Brentwood’s pass rates are not the most positive, but it is not one of the most worst test centers in London. We would say that please do not take the pass rates too seriously, always remember that you passing your test depends on your skills and abilities.

In the county of Essex in the east of England, there is a town called Brentwood which is based in The Borough of Brentwood. It is still within the commuting of London which is 30km east-north-east of Charing Cross and is close to M25 Motorway. Brentwood is surrounded open countryside and woodland and consists of a small shopping area and high street. The name Brentwood originated in the 1700’s from a mix of words ‘burnt’ & ‘wood’.

There have been major redevelopment works in Brentwood High streets, which has cost around £3m-£7m. The Sir Charles Napier was demolished as they wanted to build an additional lane to help improve the traffic flow, this also included relaying the pavements and road surface in The High Street.

Winding Country Lanes

Country lanes are pretty and seem like an easy drive, however, they have their own dangers; often hidden. You may come across vehicles that you would not normally see when you are driving in town such as tractors. You may encounter horses, sheep, and cattle. Furthermore, country lanes are not as well maintains as are the city roads and you may find large potholes. Hitting a pot-pole at high speed can be extremely dangerous.

Although the national speed limit on county lanes is 60 mph, you must remember are all speed limits are limits and not targets to be met. The examiner will expect you to drive at a speed at which you can stop within the distance you can see to be clear.

Dual Carriageways

Brentwood is located between the A12 and A12 and the examiner may take you on other dual carriage ways (you will be taken on at least one dual carriageway), so you need to ensure that you are familiar of the routes. If on a dual carriageway, it is important to remember that you should always stay in the left-hand lane unless overtaking or turning right.

Independent Drive

There will be independent driving during your driving test, which will take up half of the driving test at in Brentwood. This part of the driving test is a bit different to normal driving. For example, let’s say you’re doing a semi intensive crash course with DTC, your instructor will say, “at the roundabout, turn right.” Immediately, you know that you are approaching a roundabout. You also know that you need to start the MSM routine.

However, in the independent driving section of the practical test, you will need to identify that you are approaching a roundabout and then you need to decide when to start the Mirror, Signal & Maneuver routine.
