Within the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham lies a suburb called Barking, in the East London Area. Barking and Dagenham both merged together in 1965 to become one borough and it is 15km east of Charing Cross. Before the merge, the borough was known as The London Borough of Barking and after so much pressure from the locals, it changed it name to The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham in 1980. Barking and Dagenham was one of the 6 London Boroughs that hosted the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Barking is a fairly low density residential area and has a total population of 59,068 at the 2011 census. It is a fairly low density residential area and the town center forms a large retail and commercial district. The formal industrial lands, which are based in the south are being redeveloped as Barking Riverside.

We all know why everyone such as learner drivers, instructors and examiners have a keen interest in driving test pass rate. Thanks to the DVSA for providing everyone with this information to satisfy everyone’s curiosity. As of 2019/2020, the UK’s overall driving test pass rates stand at 45.9%. Please see below full details of the passing rates for learner drivers at Barking Tanner Street.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
36.1% 35.3% 34.3% 34.5% 38.2%

With this test center in particular, the pass rates have been falling below the overall London Average. This is not shocking though – because of the busy road conditions in the area. Please do not forget, these are just statistics, it is your own driving ability that will determine the outcome of your driving test. So please do not be put off by the statistics provided.

Show Me – Tell Me Questions

Part of the driving test involves answering two vehicle safety questions, commonly known as the “show me – tell me questions” You will be asked the “tell me question” at the beginning of the test before driving off. The “show me question” will be asked during the test itself.  If you get the one or even both questions wrong, this will be marked as a minor error and you will not fail the test.

However, a few drivers at the Barking test center have been known to fail on the show me questions, not for not knowing the answer, not for losing control of the vehicle while trying to show the answer to the examiner. If you forget a particular control, it is better to admit it to the examiner rather than try to bluff it.

Narrow Residential Roads

On the Barking driving test route, you will encounter several residential roads. This can cause a problem with meeting oncoming vehicles and also getting close to parked cars. Whatever the situation, the examiner will expect you to approach using the MSM routine. So, as soon as you see an oncoming vehicle approaching, the first thing you must do is to check the rear view mirror. After this, it would be advisable to slightly ease off the accelerator pedal as this will allow you time to think and decide.  Bear in mind that the driving test at Barking is based on safety before anything else. Therefore, if you have any doubt about whether to proceed or to stop, it would be advisable to take the side of caution and stop.

ONE WAY ROADS
There are a few one-way roads on the Barking driving test route. Many learner drivers have been known to fail at Barking because they were not aware that they were on a one-way system. Therefore watching road signs and road marking are vital in order to pass your practical test at Barking. At the entrance to a one-way road, you will be a blue rectangular sign with a white arrow. Please note that this is different from a head-only sign which is a blue circle with an arrow.

Dual Carriageways
There are some dual carriageways such as the A406 and the A13 (Alfreds Way) that the examiner may take you on. If on a dual carriageway, it is important to remember that you should always stay in the left-hand lane unless overtaking or turning right.
