Aireborough is a borough in the West Yorkshire urban area, West Yorkshire, United Kingdom. It is mostly contained within the current Leeds Metropolitan Borough, though certain areas that are now within Bradford Metropolitan District could also be considered to form part of Aireborough. It includes the settlements of Guiseley, Hawksworth, Menston, High Royds, Nether Yadon, Rawdon, Yadon, West Carlton, East Carlton, and Esholt.

The name Aireborough is used for the ward of the United Kingdom Census, named the “most middle-class in England and Wales” following research from the 2001 census. The name Aireborough was first applied to a fictional, rich, manufacturing town, in stories written for newspapers during the late nineteenth century by Charles Darcy Friel, who lived and worked in Leeds, dying there in 1910. The name is derived from the River Aire, which crosses over the urban area of West Yorkshire.

In 1936, the town councils for Guiseley, Yeadon and Rawdon, together with smaller communities belonging to Wharfedale rural district, agreed to create a new, self-governing town district council. Although the district was similar to the previous civic ward of Guiseley, it adopted the name of Aireborough instead: this was intended to reflect the equality of all townships included within the ward, and to “dispelt the old jealousies, and concentrate more easily upon the problems that lie ahead, working as a unit”. On 1 April 1937, the Metropolitan Borough came into existence. The Urban District of Aireborough was subsumed into Leeds Metropolitan Borough following a reorganisation of local authorities in 1974.

The district lies atop the South Pennines sandstone and gritstone, a landscape formed by human endeavour from ancient times. Water, in the form of becks, taints and wetlands, is the main natural resource, flowing mostly into the River Aire.

Local stone is found throughout drystone walls and in solid stone buildings — and also on the foundations of the Parliament Buildings. While the Greenways, used to get to churches, markets, the mills, or scattered farmsteads, still crisscross the city and the landscape.
