In order for you to pass a driving test at the Skegness practical test centre, you will need to show that you are both confident and safe and dealing with many different road systems.

Skegness – Bay Parking

The practical test will start from the car park at Skegness practical test centre. The driving examiner will usually ask you to demonstrate your ability to carry out either the forward bay park manoeuvre or the reverse bay park manoeuvre. Alternatively, if the examiner chooses not to request any of these manoeuvers, you will be requested to carry out the reverse exercise on the road. There are four reverse manoeuvers to choose from but the examiner will only request one. The choice of the manoeuvre shall belong solely to the examiner.

MSM Routine

Throughout the drive, the examiner will be carefully watching to see that you follow the mirror, signal, position, speed and look routine. You are expected to follow this routine on approach to all road systems such as roundabouts, crossroads and junctions of all sorts. A high standard of driving is required. In order to get your driving licence, the examiner must confident that you are safe on the roads.

Independent Drive

Furthermore, you will carry out approximately 20 minutes of independent driving. During this section of the test, the driving examiner will place a satnav on the dashboard of your vehicle. It will be a preprogrammed satnav you will not be required to make any adjustments. Also, even if you wanted to, you are not allowed to use your own equipment. Not every test candidate is required to follow directions from satnav. Some will simply be asked to follow directions given by road signs. During this portion of the test, you will usually find yourself on high-speed roads such as the A42 or the A158. A third of all learner drivers attending for their practical test will be required to carry out the emergency stop exercise. For safety reasons, the driving examiner will pre-warn the learner prior to carrying out this particular exercise.
