Keresley began life as a Saxon village. The word leah from Saxon means clearing in the woods. The first part of the name Keresley is probably a corruption of keresley. Or, it could be a corruption of the mans own name. The original settlement was in Keresley Green, but Keresley Heath was developed during the 18th century.

We are unsure of the origin of the name Coundon, but it is likely to have been taken from the ancient name for a river in the Celtic language, Kound. If this is so, Coundon is one of the few places in England that has a Celtic rather than a Saxon name. Keresley is not mentioned in the Domesday book (1086). Instead, Keresleys earliest written appearance was the middle of the 12th century. Coundon was also a very small village during the medieval period.

However, it is mentioned in Domesday book. At the time, the population of Coundon was under 100. In the 12th century, Colesley was called Colesleia. In medieval times, Keresley seems to have been a fairly large (by the standards of the day) village, having perhaps a population of 150 by the 14th century. Meanwhile, Coundon was still a small village, probably around 100 inhabitants.

Keresleys original settlement was on Keresley Green, but in the late 18th century, a new settlement developed on Keresley Heath. For centuries, Keresley and Coundon were both smaller villages, just outside of the larger city of Coventry. Keresley had a single inn, The Shepherd and Shepherdess, built in the 18th century. The current building dates to 1936.

If you do not have a practical test booked, don’t worry. Simply provide us with your driving license number along with your theory pass certificate number and we will get you a fast-track driving test – If you can need help to book your theory test, this can be arranged for you.

However, please remember that our semi-intensive driving course is designed for learners who have recently failed a practical driving test, international drivers, and those who are almost up to test standard. They are not suitable for the new beginner.
