The Hastings driving test centre is surrounded by busy urban roads. You are expected to have a high standard of driving on all road systems including crossroads, various junctions and roundabouts of all shapes and sizes. Busy a roads such as the A259 may feature in the driving test and there is a possibility of doing some rule country roads.

Hastings – Eyesight Test

The 40 minutes’ drive from Hastings driving test centre will start off with the driving examiner asking you to read a number plate at the distance of 20 meters. The examiner will then ask you one tell me Question to do with the safety of the vehicle. Once on the road, the examiner will ask you a show me Question. An example of this question would be,” tell me how you would open the window.”

Hastings – Independent Driving Section

The driving examiner will dedicate 20 minutes of the driving test to the independent driving section. This is where you will be required to follow directions given by a Satnav. The satnav, a tom-tom starts 52 will be provided by the examiner. One out of every five driving test candidates will be required to follow road signs rather than directions given by the tom-tom. You will also be asked to carry out one reverse manoeuvre out of a possible four. This may involve driving to a public or supermarket car park.

Access to Hastings Driving Test Centre can be complicated. You need to keep to the one-way-system and follow directions to designated candidate parking bays. Practice on the site is strictly not allowed. Toilets are available. Hastings DTC offers its services to Cars, Motorcycles and Large Vehicles.

Pass Rate at Hastings Driving Test Centre

Hastings driving test centre conducts on average around 250 driving tests every month.  The test centre has a pass rate which is in line with the UK average; with a pass rate of 46%. In the month of September 2016, 363 driving tests were conducted here. Out of all of these tests, only 161 people passed their test.

This pass rate may seem low so do not be put off by this percentage, if you are prepared for your driving test and know the rules of the road then the examiner will pass you.
