Most of us are aware of the dangers of drinking and driving. However, it is important that we do not forget the impact that fatigue has on us. According to experts, remaining awake the periods in excess of 18 hours can impair a driver’s abilities exceeding that of drink-driving.

Fatigue Responsible for up to 25% of Road Accidents

Data from the European Commission has recently revealed the fatigue is responsible for up to 25% of all road accidents in Europe. The problem is that it is difficult to judge just how tired a person is when they get behind a steering wheel. With today’s busy lifestyle and people having to work double shifts, fatigue driving is common but a very dangerous issue.

Solution to Educate Drivers

The Ford motor company has now, with a solution to educate drivers. They have created a sleepsuit which will mimic the effects of fatigue. Ford is hoping to use the suit in his training programs for 17 to 24-year-olds. Additionally, the participant is required to wear goggles which are connected to an app. The goggles darken at random to create the effect of micro-sleeping. Michael sleep can last up to 10 seconds but with no realisation of having been asleep.

Young drivers these days often suffer from sleep deprivation. If I’d forced themselves to stay awake so that they can juggle university life, social life, working hours and of course studying for exams. People often delegate a driver when going out for a drink. Ford hopes that the sleepsuit will make youngsters aware that the effects of fatigue but just as bad, if not worst then drink-driving.
