Got your licence less than a year ago and need a rental car? We’ve partnered with suppliers worldwide who cater specifically to newly licensed drivers—often at prices lower than you’d expect. In the past, most companies required you to have held your licence for 12–24 months (depending on location and age), but now all you need is a valid licence in hand. Whether you’re in the UK or travelling abroad, simply fill out our quick contact form and we’ll get back to you.

Please note: this service is for drivers aged 25 and over. If you’re younger, check out our young-driver car-hire options.

Got penalty points? You may still qualify—the decision depends on how many points you have and the reason for them. Fill in the contact form, and one of our rental experts will call you back to discuss options

Planning a holiday but don’t have a credit card for your rental car? Don’t worry—DTC Car Hire can help.

We work with a number of rental providers who accept alternative payment methods, including UK Visa debit cards. While there are some conditions to meet, it is possible to rent a car without a credit card. Read on for more details and any restrictions that may apply.

Can you rent a car without a credit card?
Yes, in many cases you can. While most rental companies require a credit card in the driver’s name and won’t accept cash, prepaid cards, or cheques, some do allow rentals using a debit card—with a few added requirements.

Keep in mind that not all debit cards are accepted, even if most are. Also, the debit card must be in the name of the main driver, matching the name on the driving licence.

What is Car Hire Insurance Excess?
Car hire insurance excess is the maximum amount you’d need to pay if the rental car is damaged. The exact amount varies depending on the rental provider and the type of vehicle you choose, typically ranging from £500 to £3,000. For specific details, feel free to speak with one of our team members.

Can I reduce my excess?
Yes, you can reduce or protect yourself against this potential cost. There are two main options: Excess Reduction and Excess Reimbursement.

What’s the difference between excess reduction and excess reimbursement?

  • Excess Reduction lowers the amount you’d be responsible for if the car is damaged. This is arranged directly with the rental company.

  • Excess Reimbursement means you still pay the excess upfront if damage occurs, but you can claim that amount back through a separate policy.

What is excess reduction?
This option is provided by the car rental company and reduces your financial liability in case of damage. It typically costs between £10 and £30 per day, depending on the vehicle and supplier.

What is excess reimbursement?
With this option, you pay any damage costs to the rental company first, but you can later claim back the full amount through your reimbursement policy, with the help of our team.
