Wigston, or Wigston Magna, is a small town in Leicestershire, England, located south of Leicester on the A5199. It had a population of 32,321 in 2011. Wigston is 3.63 miles (5.84 km) south of the town of Leicester, at the heart of Leicestershire and the East Midlands. Oadby is 1.33 miles (2.14 km) east, connected by the B582 road.

To the west, via the B582, or Blaby Road, is South Wigston, (1.08 miles (1.74 km)). Wigston is the largest of the Leicester satellite towns. The Grand Union Canal runs on the south side below Wigston, starting at Newton Harcourt, at a distance of 2.41 miles (3.88 km), at Kilby Bridge, at a distance of 1.25 miles (2.01 km), for a few miles, via South Wigston, at Glen Parva, at 1.93 miles (3.11 km), at Blaby, at a distance of 2.63 miles (4.23 km), towards Leicester. Wigstons population of around 32,000 people lives both in post-war private suburban housing developments surrounding the Old Town Centre, as well as 19th-century buildings which are now sat amongst contemporary housing developments. The oldest post-war development is the Wigston Fields, to the north of Wigston, toward Knighton and Leicester; and the Meadows and Little Hill Estates, developed in the 1970s and 1980s, east and south of Wigstons old centre.

Wigston Harcourt was a residential development area developed up until the early 1990s between the Little Hill and Meadows estates. These three estates form the boundaries of Leicesters wider urban area, outside of which lies farmland. One of the first records of Wigston is found in the Domesday Book, inscribed as Wickingstone, within the old Wapentake of Guthlaxton, listed as one of the lands held for the King by Hugh de Grandmesnil. In medieval times, it was known as Wigston of the Two Spires, because unusually, two medieval churches, All Saints and St. Wistans, were located there.

St Wistans is so called as this was one of the places that St Wistans, or Wigstans, body lay prior to being laid to rest. Wigstan was a Prince of Mercia, murdered, but was considered martyred. He was originally laid to rest in the town of Repton, but later moved his body to Evesham.
