Most learner drivers who fail their first driving test usually fail in their second as well. The main reason is the waiting time for driving test appointments in Whetstone is well over two months. Unfortunately. If you have to wait two months between tests, you are likely to forget vital information, unless to take non stop regular lessons.

Whetstone is a village and civic parish in the Blaby area of Leicestershire, England, which serves principally as a suburban village to Leicester, which is five miles north. The population was 6,556 at the 2011 census. The village is bound by the A426 to the east (on the other side is the village of Blaby), to the north by the railway from Birmingham to Leicester, and to the west by the M1. It is well-connected with the centre of Leicester, with very frequent direct bus services.

From 1899 until 1963, Whetstone railway station served the village. Whetstone was the location of Frank Whittles factory, which developed the Jet Engine.

Babcock Services, ITP Engines Ltd, and Converteam now occupy large parts of the site. Smaller companies lease the spaces, mostly to store commercial vehicles.

Until 2002, an air raid siren was heard on this property every Wednesday morning at 8am.

The Whittle Factory site became an Electricity Company of England (later GEC). A substantial portion of several nuclear power stations were built there during the 1960s and 1970s. English Electric is one of the largest engineering companies in the Leicester area, employing thousands of workers and producing hundreds of apprentices every year. At one time, it had to import over 4000 workers from Middlesex to alleviate labour shortages. Many settled permanently, leading to prosperity during the late 1960s.

A measure of computing productivity called the “Whetstone” was named after England Electrics Whetstone ALGOL compiler, developed in-house by the company; thus taking its name from the village. Apart from Blaby, the surrounding places are Enderby, Glen Parva, Countesthorpe, Cosby, Littlethorpe, and Narborough. Whetstone has two schools: Badgerbrook Primary School and St Peters Primary School. Whetstone has a number of football clubs: Blaby & Whetstone Boys, Whetstone Juniors, and the Saffron Dynamo.

Holmes Park is home to Leicester and Rutland County FA. Holmes Park is also the home of the Leicester City FC Under 23s. An amateur rugby league club, the Vipers RFC, is based in the village.

Another rugby club in Whetstone is Leicester Lions RFC, located in the suburbs of Whetstone, which holds a national tap dance doubles tournament every year for those aged over 60. Whetstone holds the annual Remembrance Day parade led by the church lads and church girls brigade, supported by the 1st Whetstone Scouts and the 1st Whetstone Guides.
