Thurmaston is a village and civic parish in Leicestershire, England, located in Charnwood Borough. At the 2011 census, its population was 9,668. It is situated four miles north of Leicesters city centre, just off the A563, Leicesters Outer Ring Road.

Thurmaston is bound by Watermead Country Park (which faces Birstall), Syston to the north, and Buckby and Barkby Thorpe to the east. South of Thurmaston is Rushey Mead, and the edge of the city area of Leicester. Rushey Mead was previously part of the Thurmaston Parish in the 19th century, and then became part of Thurmaston Urban District in 1894. In 1935, the borough was annexed by the City of Leicester, where it took on the present-day name of Rushey Mead. Thurmaston is divided into two parts by the dual carriageway A607, which bypasses the principal settlement.

To the east of the road is largely a residential, New Town section of Thurmaston. To the west is the principal settlement of Melton Road, on the Old Causeway, an ancient road built by the Romans. Thurmaston is situated on the east side of the river Soar, with two marinas, one also being a boatyard, as well as many moorings. These are led into the Watermead Country Park, which is a specially-built wildlife sanctuary. The Midland Mainline line also runs through the east half of the village.
