Simister is a small hamlet within the Bury Metropolitan Borough, Greater Manchester, United Kingdom. Historically part of Lancashire, it lies between the constituencies of Prestwich, Rhodes, and Langley. Although the villages proximity to Manchester means that its residential population is mostly made up of commuters, the village has a rural character, with a lot of farming activities. The village is situated to the east of the “Simpster Islands”, the M62, M66 and M60 motorway interchanges at Junction 18.

Thousands of vehicles use this motorway junction each day, and the noise from the traffic is frequently considered to be an irritation, but is not a part of the village by residents. The main road, Simister Lane, is frequently used as a “rat lane” by cars travelling into and out of Prestwich, Middleton, and Junction 19 on the M60.

The Simister Village Community Association, formed in 2000, is developing the 10 acres wetland area in 2010. It has installed paved paths, costing PS30,000, funded through grants from bodies including the Big Lottery, Breathing Spaces and Green Greater Manchester, and with the physical support of the Borough Council, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) and local residents. Woodland maintenance is to take place over the winter using further grants.
