An intensive driving course is a fantastic way to reach test standard in a within a short time frame but it will not make you an experienced driver. Taking weekly driving lessons will give you experience in dealing with different conditions such as driving in bad weather, varying traffic conditions and driving in the dark. Learning over a longer period allows the information given in the lessons to enter the long-term memory.

Shirley is a town in the Solihull Metropolitan Borough, West Midlands, United Kingdom. Historically part of Warwickshire, nearby areas include Shirley Heath, Sharmans Cross, Solihull Lodge, Monkspath, Cranmore, and Birminghams Hall Green area. The first known settlement in the area was in Berry Mound, in Solihull Lodge, part of West Shirley, the site of the Iron Age hillfort, a hillfortified village protected by earthen banks, dating from the first century BC, which covered about 11 acres (4.5 ha).

The earthworks are still visible on the Northern Worcestershire Way, which begins on the Aqueduct Road, Majors Green.

Shirley was part of Ulverlei (now Oltons) manor until Solihull was founded in the 12th or 13th century, at which time it became part of the parish of Solihull. Shirley developed slowly as a small settlement in the direction of Stratford Road, called Shirley Street, which ran through the settlement.

Between 1725 and 1872, Stratford Road was a turnpike road, and its easy access to Birmingham and the remoteness of Shirley attracted sporting activities, such as bull-baiting[citation needed] cockfighting[citation needed] (reputedly in Plume of Feathers public house)[citation needed] and pugilism. These activities encouraged church authorities to begin building St Jamess Church in 1831, later expanded in 1882.

Shirley eventually became its own parish church in 1893. Shirley grew rapidly during the late nineteenth century and the early twentieth century, with people moving from Birmingham, helped by the 1908 opening of a railway, which was the Great Western Route, running from Snow Hill station to Stratford-upon-Avon, then to Cheltenham. For a hundred years starting from the mid-19th century, Shirley had a horse racing ground, this was complemented by a public Lido on Sansome Road, an Odeon cinema on Stratford Road, and a public library in Church Road, all by the 1930s. Shirleys expansion picked up again after World War II, and has continued apace of late.
