Ratby is a suburban village and a civic parish within Hinkley and Bosworth districts in Leicestershire, England. It is situated west of Leicester, just south of the M1 motorway.

The civil parishs population was measured at 4,468 at the 2011 census.

Other nearby places include Field Head, Kirby Muxloe, Glenfield, and Markfield. Ratbys proximity to Leicester makes it a part of the Leicester urban area.

The oldest known human settlement at Ratby is Bury Camp, at the edge of Ratby, a hillfort in the Iron Age dating to around 3000 years ago. Later, Roman forces appropriated the camp to be used as a temporary hillfort around 50 AD.

The next oldest building is the historic church of St. Philip & St. James, called the Rathby church, built in four stages between 13th century and 15th century, and restored by Nicholas Joyce in 1881. The church was appropriated to Leicester Abbey in 1291, then to Nuneaton Priory.

There are also some huts dating from different centuries. For much of its history, Ratby was a small farming village, with few farms, and an open 3 field plan, until the 18th century when it was enclosed. From 1346 to the 19th century, Ratby was within Sparkenhoe Hundred.

In the 1730s, residents were employed mostly in knitting for frames; population was 1,025 at this time. The principal landowner was the Earl of Stamford and Warrington, who was Lord of the Manor and Patron of the Vicarage. The parish was enclosed in 1770.

In the 20th century, a war memorial called “Angel of Peace” was built in the aftermath of the first world war, unveiled in 1920 by wartime British army commander-in-chief Field Marshal Haig.
