Pinner is situated 12 miles northwest of Charing Cross and is in the historic county of Middlesex which is close to the border of Hillingdon. It is also a suburb in the borough of Harrow, Greater London, England. First recorded in 1231, Pinner was originally a hamelet and it got its name from the word River Pinn – which is a river that runs through a river which runs through the middle of Pinner.

The oldest part of town dates back to the 14th century and is known as parish church of St. John the Baptist; this was a church that was originally a chapel of ease to St Mary’s Church in Harrow, and was first mentioned in 1234. The church was rebuilt in the early 14th century and was then rededicated in 1321.

Between 1923 and 1939, the village started to rapidly expand when a series of garden estates, which included the Pinner-wood estate conservation area – which was encouraged by the Metropolitan Railway, it grew around its historic core.

We are aware that our learners are interested in statistics in regards to pass rates in their chosen driving test centers. So far, we have found out that learner drivers in the UK have a 45.9% of passing their driving test. For those in London, the pass rate, stands at 40.8%. To see how Pinner performed, please see the table below.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
45.2% 45.5% 43.1% 41.8% 43.1%

These pass rates are not bad, they’re higher than the average for London but lower than the average for the UK. Overall, Pinner have performed very well, but do not let these pass rates, affect you, and do not rely on them. Remember, passing depends on your own ability and performance.

20 mph zones
During your driving lessons or even your driving test at Pinner you will come across several 20 mph roads. Many of these have recently had their speed reduced from 30 mph to 20 mph. Bear in mind that a satnav may display the old speed if it has not been updated. The Harlyn Primary School is close to the test centre which can,  if you test at the beginning of the end of the school day, cause issues with meeting vehicles.

Narrow Residential Roads
You will spend a considerable amount of time during you semi intensive driving lessons in Pinner on residential road. There are many residential roads in the area which can cause a problem with meeting oncoming vehicles and also getting close to parked cars. Whatever the situation, the DTC driving instructor will teach you to use the MSM routine.  During your practical test, as soon as you see an oncoming vehicle approaching, the first thing you must do is to check the rear view mirror. After this, it would be advisable to slightly ease off the accelerator pedal as this will allow you time to think and decide.  Bear in mind that the driving test at Pinner is based on safety before anything else. Therefore, if you have any doubt about whether to proceed or to stop, it would be advisable to take the side of caution and stop.

ONE WAY ROADS
There are a few one-way roads on the Pinner driving test route. Many learner drivers have been known to fail at Pinner because they were not aware that they were on a one-way system. Therefore watching road signs and road marking are vital in order to pass your driving test at Pinner. At the entrance to a one-way road, there will be a blue rectangular sign with a white arrow. Please note that this is different from a head-only sign which is a blue circle with an arrow.
