Old Trafford is a football stadium located at Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England, which is home to Manchester United. At 74,879, it is the largest club football stadium in the UK (and second largest overall, behind Wembley Stadium) and 11th largest in Europe. It is approximately 0.5 miles (800 m) from Old Trafford Cricket Ground, and an adjacent tram station. Nicknamed “Theatre of Dreams” by Bobby Charlton, Old Trafford has been Uniteds home since 1910, though the club shared Maine Road with local rivals Manchester City from 1941 until 1949 due to the effects of the Second World War blitz.

Old Trafford underwent a number of extensions during the 1990s and 2000s, including the addition of additional levels in the north, west and east stands, nearly returning the stadium to its original capacity of 80,000. Future expansion is likely to include the addition of a second tier to the South Stand, increasing the capacity to about 88,000.

The record crowd for the stadium was recorded in 1939, with 76,962 watching an FA Cup semi-final between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Grimsby Town. Old Trafford has hosted one FA Cup Final, two replays of the final, and is often used as the neutral site of a competitions semi-final. It has also hosted English fixtures, matches in the 1966 World Cup, Euro 96 and 2012 Summer Olympics, including the women’s national soccer team for the first time in its history, as well as the 2003 Champions League final. Outside of football, it has been the site of rugby unions annual Super League Grand Final each year but 2020, as well as Rugby Leagues World Cup Finals in 2000 and 2013.
