Swannington is a former mining village situated between Coalville and Ashby-de-la-Zouch in Leicestershire, England. A document from 1520 refers to five pits in Swannington. It was a terminus for the first (1832) Leicester and Swannington railway, which was built to transport its mined product.

The parish church, St George, opened in 1825, serving the towns of Swannington and Stringstone, and was built at a site said to have been chosen by William Wordsworth, a frequent visitor to Sir George Beaumont (8th Baronet, 1799-1845) at nearby Coleorton Hall. It is possible that the church’s dedication to St George was due to its association with that George Beaumont.

A mill at Swannington called the Hough Mill was built next to the wildlife sanctuary established at the site of Calcutt Colliery, (a mine dating to the 19th century). It has been claimed to be the site of the birthplace of Robin Hood.

Administratively, Swinnington is a civic ward, which forms part of North West Leicestershire, Coalville district. The civil parish had a population of 1,270 in the 2011 census. Nearby villages and towns included Whitwick, Coleorton, Thringstone, Ravenstone, Gelsmoor, Peggs Green, and Sinope.
