Marston Green is a large commuter village with about 5,000 residents, within the Civil Parish of Bickenhill and Marston Green, within the Solihull Metropolitan Borough of West Midlands. It lies within the historical County of Warwickshire. The village is situated on the eastern edge of the West Midlands conurbation, and is close to Birmingham airport and the National Exhibition Centre.

Marston Green railway station is located within the Birmingham Loop on the West Coast Main Line and is served by local services from West Midlands Trains to Birmingham and Coventry, as well as a small number of semi-fast services to Northampton and London Euston. Notable features of the area include a number of shops, Marston Green tavern, St Leonards church, and the Marston Green primary and secondary schools. Marston Green began as a small village enclosed by farmland on Coleshill Estate[citation needed] At this time, the village was known as Merstone.

The village developed into a leafy suburb during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with many of the 1930s-built detached and semi-detached houses being typical of many suburban homes in the area. The growth in housing stock here was encouraged by the availability of a railway station.

Following expansion at nearby Birmingham airport, construction at the National Exhibition Centre, and the development of a nearby housing development, Chelmsley Wood, Marston Green became predominantly a commuter village, many of whose residents worked in Solihull and Birmingham. During World War II, a Canadian Air Force Base was located at Marston Green. After that, the building was used as a Maternity Hospital, and later as a mental health facility, before being demolished in the 1990s.
