Kingstanding is an area of North Birmingham, England. It gives its name to a ward within the constituency of Erdington Council. The Kingstanding ward includes the areas; Perry Common, Witton Lakes, and the Woodley Birch. Kingstanding is home to the covered Drinking Water Retention Tank, the Perry Barr Reservoir, located in the former site of the Perry Barr farm. Kingstanding is served by two libraries; the Kingstanding Library and Perry Common Library. The area known as Kingstanding Circle is the location of Kingstanding Village Centre, which contains the shops, and Kingway/Kingstanding Road gyratory. The area is named for an event where the Stuart King Charles I was said to have reviewed his troops standing at a Neolithic bowling alley in the area, on 18 October 1642, during the English Civil War, following his stay at nearby Aston Hall.

The earliest mention of Kingstanding is as Kings Stand. The route of the Icknield Street Roman road ran through this barrow; and a cache of Roman coins was discovered in the excavations of a water-pumps site in 1884.

The area was mostly rural until 1928, when the district began to see extensive housing developments. The first of these developments was completed by 1934. It was in the 1930s and 40s that much of the present-day housing was built. Most homes in Kingshighway were built as council houses to the north of the borough.

At the time, this was the largest council housing estate development in Europe, with about 6,700 properties on completion. In 1935, the Odeon Cinema, designed by Cecil Clavering, opened in Kingsstanding Circle. On 6 June 1964, the Kingstanding Library opened. It had a floor space of 1000 square feet (93 m2), which was identified as being vulnerable to mining subsidence.
