Hinkley is a market town in South West Leicestershire, England. It is administered by the Borough of Hinckley and Bosworth. Hinckley is the second largest city within Leicestershires administrative constituency, behind Loughborough. Hinckley lies roughly half-way between the cities of Leicester and Coventry, and is close to the larger city of Nuneaton, in Warwickshire.
In 2000, Northampton Archaeology Archaeologists discovered evidence for Iron Age and Romano-British settlements in the ground around Coventry Road and Watling Street. Hinkley has a recorded history dating back to the Anglo-Saxon period; the name Hinkley is an Anglo-Saxon word: “Hink” is the family name, “ley” is the grassy field. By the time of the Domesday Book of 1086, Hinckley was quite a large village, which over the next 200 years developed into a small market town: the market was first recorded there in 1311. There is evidence for an Anglo-Saxon church–remnants of the Anglo-Saxon sundial are visible in a diagonal buttress at the south-east corner of the chancel.
In the 17th century, the town developed an hosiery industry, producing stockings and similar items. Hinkley played an important role during the English Civil War. Its proximity to several opposing strongholds–the Loyalist garrisons of Caldicote, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, and Leicester, and those of the Parliamentarians of Tamworth and Coventry–and the presence of parties of troops or bandits who occupied a number of fortified houses in neighbouring Warwickshire led to the warring parties making frequent visits.
Local citizens were forced to decide whether to openly declare allegiance, or try to stay neutral–at risk of having to pay tribute, ransom, and fines from either party. In March 1644, Hinkley was captured by a force of Loyalist troops, although these were quickly driven off by a force of Parliamentarians, who took many prisoners. The years of civil war were particularly troublesome times for clergymen in and around Hinckley. Parsons of Parliamentary bent, such as Thomas Cleveland, vicar of Hinckley, suffered sequestration from Leicestershire Boards, as did a number of his “malignant” neighbours accused of visiting Loyalist garrisons or proselytising against parliament.
A massive thanks to Bilal for teaching me all I needed to know to pass my first driving test. He was so amazing! Better than all 4 previous instructors who were more focused on getting paid rather than teaching me. He taught me in a nice and professional way and helped me learn at my own pace. Would highly recommend.
Great experience and Aiza is amazing driving instructor!
Aiza made me feel comfortable from day 1. I was a nervous driver and have had bad experiences with previous driving instructors and so I was not sure. But this was recommended to me by my friend. I took her advice and I am glad I did. I passed this my driving test morning with 3 minor faults.
