Harborne is an area in South West Birmingham, England. It is one of the wealthiest areas in the Midlands, and is three miles (5 km) south-west of the centre of Birmingham. It is a ward on the Birmingham Metropolitan Borough Council, within its official constituency, and within Birminghams Edgbaston constituency.

Houndsey lies west of Edgbaston, north of Selly Oak, east of Quainton, and south of the neighbouring areas of Bearwood and Warley. As a parish, it covers a land mass of 3,300 acres (1,300 ha), of which 100 acres (40 ha) is woodland and planted; Harborne Green is an area within Harborne. Harborne is a Victorian suburban town, with large stock of pre-1900 housing (found mostly around High Street) and early-20th-century. The oldest section, known locally as Harborne Village, is centered around St Peters Church, Old Church Road, which dates to the Anglo-Saxon period (St. Chad preached there) and the tower was (re)constructed in the 14th century[citation needed].

There is also some evidence for Roman hillforts surrounding the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, and Metchley Park, close to Harborne. The first written record of Harborne is a record in Domesday Book 1086, however, settlements before that date. The spelling Harborne has appeared in different variations over the centuries, and the origins of the placename are frequently debated.

One of the most likely suggestions is borderland brook, though a slough of a slough is also possible.
