Groby is a large English village in Leicestershire, north-west of the town of Leicester. The population was 6,796 at the 2011 census. The village has expanded greatly since the 1970s, and is now part of the urban area of Leicester.

The south end is dominated by new housing estates built on land that was previously agricultural, between the historical parts of Groby and neighbouring village of Glenfield. The ancient centre of the village still retains a certain character, with a few cobbled lanes and straw huts.

The Church of St. Philip and St. James, built by George Harry Booth-Gray, sixth Earl of Stamford, in a lancet style, dates from the 1840s, on the site of Groby Castle. The architect was William Ralton.

In April 2010, archaeologists on Channel 4s popular TV programme, The Time Team, excavated an area behind the Old Hall and Parish Church. They were looking to uncover the story behind Groby Castle, and found the site of a lost medieval palace, complete with chapel, built around the inner courtyard. The episode was broadcast on 20 March 2011.

The old high street running through the centre of the village, running south towards Leicester and north to Coalville, was classified under Britains Road Numbering Scheme as A50, but the road has now bypassed most of the village, thanks to two road schemes in the 1980s and 1990s.

The village is also easily accessible by the A46 Leicester West Bypass and M1 (J22 North and J21a South).

A 2011 study using 60 sets of data from the Police, Land Registry, Ofsted and Office for National Statistics named the village as the best place to raise children in the East Midlands.
