Glenfield is a large village within Glenfields civic parish, located within Blaby County, in the English county of Leicestershire. At the 2011 census, the population was 9,643. The ward was formed by combining the old ward of Glenfield with Glenfield Frith in 1935. The parish is immediately west of Leicester, just off Junction 21A on the M1.

It is home to the headquarters of Leicestershire County Council, as well as the Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service. It is also where the name Glenfield Hospital is taken, though in fact, that hospital is just over the town boundary, in Leicester. The centre of the community is around the square, with St Peters Church (CofE), the Church Hall, the remains of a former church, Methodist Church and Hall, and a community library (which offers generous access to the Internet) all within the station road, while Park House (parish council), Memorial Hall, Scout Hut, play park, Glenfield Primary School, and nursery all within the Stamford Road. Halls county primary school is located in Glenfield Frith Drive.

Close by the Hall school is Faire Road, which is generally known for a number of shops located there. The name Glenfield means a neat field, perhaps suggesting that it is free from weeds. Glenfield is mentioned in Domesday Book of 1086, when it was located within Guthlaxton Hundred, with 12 households.

The village was considerably expanded in the years from the 1920s to the 1950s, with the building of Fairey Manor. In the 1980s and 1990s, another major estate was built on former farmland beyond Ellis Park.

Glenfield was the location of the first railway station, Leicester Western Bridge, of the Leicester and Swannington railway, which opened as the third railway in the world, on 17 July 1832. Just before reaching the station, the line passed through Glenfield Tunnel, built by Robert Stephenson, which was, at a length of one mile and 36 yards, the longest railway tunnel in the world at the time. The end of the Glenfield Tunnel is still visible.
