Fetcham is a commuter village in Surrey, England, just west of Leatherhead Town, across the river Mole, with a mill pond, a spring, and a surrounding nature preserve. The housing, like neighbouring Great Bookham, is situated on the lower slopes of the North Downs, just north of Polesden Lacey (NT). Fetcham Grove has Leatherhead, between these two settlements, as well as the villages primary recreational center and a football club. Fetcham has two short parades of shops and services, a few sports teams and parks, and a small number of larger pubs and eating establishments. Neighbours Bookham and Leatherhead both have railway stations, while the junction with the London Orbital Superhighway, M25, is a three-mile (4.8 km) drive away, passing beside the River Mole, past a brief rise comprising much of the remaining farms in Fetcham, and a forested Great Bookham Common that defines the northern boundary of Fetcham.

The northerly few square miles and larger northern downs are protected green belts, providing buffers between Stoke-on-Dabernon (south of the post-town of Cobham) and Dorking, respectively. The name “Featham” is from Anglo-Saxon “Feccas Ham”–Feccas settlement. Fetcham is located in the Copthorne Hundred.

In fact, evidence suggests there was an earlier settlement, too, with Stone Age and Bronze Age tools found, as well as Roman artefacts, as well as three ancient burial grounds.

Fetcham appears in Domesday Book of 1086 as Fetcham. It was held in part by William the Conqueror; in part by Richard by the Bishop of Bayeux, and in part by Oswald the Great. Its assets at Domesday were: seven huts; five-and-a-half mills, valued at 17; ten-and-a-half ploughs; two oxen; 30 acres (12 ha) meadow; woods, herbs, and shits, valued at 23 hogs.

It gave annually to the lords in the feudal system 10 10 0d. Fetcham, then, is mentioned as having three manors in the Domesday Survey; one, known as the Kings Manor, was likely Fetcham Park; the other was granted to Odo, the Bishop of Bayeux, following the Norman Conquest. The third was the Augustinian founded by the Priory of Merton, in Kannon Court, dissolved by Henry VIII in 1538.
