Farnborough is a village in South East Greater London, England, located within the historic County of Kent. Situated south of Locksbottom, west of Green Street Green, north of Downe and Hazelwood, and east of Keston, it is centrally located 13.4 miles south-east of Charing Cross.

Suburban development after the Second World War led to the area becoming contiguous to the conurbation of London. The area has formed part of the London Borough of Bromley Local Authority District, following the creation of a ceremonial Greater London County in 1965 for administrative purposes.

The village name is from Fearnbiorginga, meaning the village in amongst the ferns of a hill. Old records go back to 862, when Ethelbert, king of Wessex, granted 950 acres at Farnborough. The village was not included in Domesday Book of 1086, but a manor existed throughout the medieval period, held by Simon de Montfort during the 13th century.

The village developed along a major route from London to Hastings, originally running through Church Road and Old Hill (south of the village). The George Pub existed during the 16th century, used as a coach inn. Coaches and horses were housed there after.

Farnborough forms a civil parish within Ruxley Hundred, Kent. In 1840, the parish was included within the Metropolitan police district. It was part of the rural health districts in Bromley, which continued as a part of the rural county Borough of Bromley between 1894 and 1934.
