Enfield is a large town based in North London, England. It is located in the ceremonial county of Greater London in the ancient county of Middlesex. Enfield is 10.1 miles north-north east of Charing Cross and as of 2018, had a population of 156.858. Many areas are included within Enfield such Botany Bay, Brimsdown, Bulls Cross, Bush Hill Park, Clay Hill, Crews Hill, Enfield Highway, Enfield Lock, Enfield Town, Enfield Wash, Forty Hill, Freezywater, Gordon Hill, Grange Park, Hadley Wood, Ponders End and World’s End.

In 1303, Enfield town was a  market town which was chartered by Edward I, it was also the commercial center of Enfield and at the same time, was the location of St Andrews Enfield, the original Parish Church. Enfield is one of the 35 major cities in Greater London. London City Airport is less than an hour from Enfield, which is why some people tend to move there.

Everyone is interested in pass rates, and there is nothing to be worried about though. People in the UK have a 45.9% of passing their test. Those of you, who are in London have a even lower chance of passing on a average of 40.8%. See the pass rates for Enfield in the table below.

2015-16 2016-17 2017-18 2018-19 2019-20
38.4% 39.0% 36.1% 38.7% 41.9%

Yes, we know, your probably thinking that these are very low pass rates and it has maybe worried you even more. But do not worry, calm yourself – we can confidently tell you that these are not the lowest pass rates in Greater London. Test centers which are located in more common and busier and urban areas, these rates are practically normal. Do not let this worry you though, as long as you work as hard as you can in your driving lessons, there is no reason to why you should not pass an come out on top. Just believe in yourself.

ONE WAY ROADS

There are some one-way roads on the Enfield driving test route of which many learner drivers have been known to fail their tests at Enfield because they are not aware that they were on a one-system. Therefore, it is important that you watch all the road signs and marking – as this is vital in order for you to pass your driving test at Enfield. At the entrance to a one-way road, you will be a blue rectangular sign with a white arrow. Please note that this is different from a head-only sign which is a blue circle with an arrow.

Winding Country Lanes

Enfield is located on the outskirts of North London you can expect a variety of road and traffic conditions and at the same time, you can expect both narrow urban roads and country lanes. Now, country lanes may seem easy to drive on; however, they do have their dangers. Vehicles, that you are not used to seeing, you will come across, these are vehicles such as Tractors.  You may also encounter horses, sheep, and cattle. Furthermore, country lanes are not as well maintains as are the city roads and you may find large potholes. Hitting a pot-pole at high speed can be extremely dangerous.

Although the national speed limit on county lanes is 60 mph, you must remember are all speed limits are limits and not targets to be met. The examiner will expect you to drive at a speed at which you can stop within the distance you can see to be clear.

Narrow Residential Roads

Most of your time, you will be spending a considerable amount of time during you semi intensive driving lessons in Enfield on residential roads.

There are a lot of residential roads in the area which can cause a problem with meeting oncoming vehicles and also getting close to parked cars. But do not worry, you will be taught the MSM routine.

During your practical test, as soon as you see an oncoming vehicle approaching, the first thing you must do is to check the rear view mirror. After this, it would be advisable to slightly ease off the accelerator pedal as this will allow you time to think and decide. Always remember that Enfield driving tests are always based on safety first, rather than anything else.  Therefore, if you have any doubt about whether to proceed or to stop, it would be advisable to take the side of caution and stop.
