Drighlington is a village and civic parish within the Metropolitan Borough of Leeds, in the English region of West Yorkshire. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the village is five miles (9 km) south-west of Leeds and four miles (6 km) south-east of Bradford. The village is commonly abbreviated as Dreg.

The civil parish had a population of 5,528 at the 2011 census. The hamlet is located within the North ward of Leeds Metropolitan Borough Council, as well as within the parliamentary constituency of Morley and Outwood.

The first reference to Drighlington is to be found in Domesday Book 1086, as Dreslintone and Dreslingtone, followed in 1202 by a confirmation as Drichtlington, and later spellings following on from those lines. The name is of Old English origin. The first element is the personal name, the initial form of which is not now known, but is likely to have been Dryhtel, Dryhtla, or Dryhtwulf. The second element is a suffix, -ingas, which indicates a group of persons.

Thus, the Dryhtlingas are a group that descended or was otherwise connected to a person called Dryhtel (or similar). The group name was thus commingled with the Old English word tun (farmstead, manor). The name therefore once meant something similar to a settlement by descendants of the Dreythtla.

In 1576, Queen Elizabeth I granted letters patent to one James Brooke, authorizing him to conduct markets on every other Thursday, and to conduct twice-yearly horse and livestock fairs. These fairs were held in The White Hart Public House (now demolished).

The village was also the scene of the Battle of Adwalton Moor, fought on 30 June 1643, during the first English Civil War, between King Charles Is forces and Parliamentarians. The royalist forces, commanded by the Earl of Newcastle, defeated the parliamentarians, under Lord Ferdinand of Fairfax and his son, Sir Thomas.

There are four memorial stones bearing plaques showing the battles in strategic places around the Common, and an information panel is located on the wall of the Community Library. A large house stood where Plasticisers Engineering is today. The chapel had the Celtic cross, while on its roof were stone artillery shells, which were said to have been left behind by the siege (as per legend). No photographs of this destroyed building are available.
