Countesthorpe is a major village and civic parish within the Blaby area of Leicestershire, and has a population of 6,393 (2001 Census, falling slightly to 6,377 in the 2011 Census. It lies south of Leicester, some six miles from the town centre, but just two miles south of the suburban town of South Wigston. Nearby places are Blaby and South Wigston to the north, Kilby to the east, Peatling Magna and Waterleys Willoughby to the south, and Broughton Astley, Cosby, and Whetstone to the west.

The name Countesthorpe is from the 11th century, when the area was part of the wedding dowry for the Countess Judith, granddaughter of William the Conqueror. The thorpe part of the name is a variation on the Middle English word thorp, meaning small village or town. The parish church, St Andrews, was founded in 1220 by the family of Lord William of Ludbrook.

It was restored in 1840, and then again in 1907. The tower, dating from the 14th century, is still standing.

There are three public houses in the village: The Axe & Square, The Bulls Head, and The Railway. Another public house, The King William IV, was converted to Tesco Express in 2013.

Magna 73 in the Leicestershire Senior League is a club playing association football, playing north of the village. The village is twinned with the French town of Mennecy. Countesthorpe is served by a single local primary school, called Greenfield Primary.

Until September 2016, Countesthorpe had a separate secondary school called Leysland High School, which was reviewed by Ofsted in 2013 as “Outstanding”, and a further education college called Countesthorpe Community College. Both schools are attended by popular music band Kasabian. The two schools joined together to form a single “academy” called Countesthorpe Leysland Community College, with Ofsted ratings of “Outstanding” in 2013 and “Inadequate” in 2019. The school was renamed Countesthorpe Academy in 2020.
