Chertsey is a town 29km south-west of Central London and is based in The Borough of Runnymede, Surrey and it is one of the oldest market towns in England. It was founded 666 CE. This town is within the M25 and is accessible via junction 11. Train services are run between Chertsey railway station and London Waterloo by South Western Railway.

Chertsey was granted its market charter by Henry I and was reconfirmed Henry III in 1249 and Chertsey has thrived as a market town due to the fine market gardening, and its proximity to London.

Chertsey is in The Greater London Urban Area and can be accessed by road from Junction 11 of the M25 London Orbital Motorway. It is also home to Samsung Electronics Head Office and it is also close to Thorpe Park including frequent buses from Staines-upon-Thames and the car park.

Narrow Residential Roads

As the test is located just outside London, there are several winding country lanes. Chertsey has many residential roads which can cause a problem with meeting oncoming vehicles and also getting close to parked cars. Whatever the situation, the DTC driving instructor will teach you to use the MSM routine.

Dual Carriageways

There are very well known dual carriageways such as the A317 (St Peters Way) which lead onto the famous M25. The examiner may take you on any one of the dual carriageways in Chertsey, so it is very important that you stay in left hand land at all times unless overtaking or turning. 

Narrow Residential Roads

You will be spending a lot of time during your semi intensive driving lessons in Chertsey on residential roads. A narrow road leads into and out of the test center so be prepared for a meeting situation.

During your practical test, as soon as you see an oncoming vehicle approaching, the first thing you must do is to check the rear view mirror. After this, it would be advisable to slightly ease off the accelerator pedal as this will allow you time to think and decide.  Bear in mind that the driving test at Chertsey is based on safety before anything else. Therefore, if you have any doubt about whether to proceed or to stop, it would be advisable to take the side of caution and stop. 

Car Park 

Chertsey driving test center does have a car park – this means that the examiner may or will ask you to carry out the bay park manouvere at the test center itself. They can request this at the very start or the very end of the test. They can ask you to reverse into a bay of your choice, or you could be asked to drive forward into a bay and then reverse out of it. During your semi intensive driving lessons at Chertsey your DTC driving instructor will teach you the bay park in various public car parks. 

However, please remember that just because Chertsey test center has a car park, the examiner does not have to request the reverse maneuver at the center. You could be asked to carry out the parallel park between two cars on a public road or asked to stop on the right-hand side of a road and then reverse back.
