Beckett Park (also known as Becketts Park) is a residential neighborhood and a large public park in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is located within the Weetwood ward of Leeds Metropolitan Borough Council. It is adjacent to Headingley, West Park and Kirkstall. It is named for Ernest Beckett, 2nd Baron Grimthorpe.

The public park extends from Queenswood Drive in the west and to Mount Batcliffe in the east. St. Chads Drive is north, and Langdale Terrace is south. It also contains the Beckett Park School, childrens playground, skatepark, and tennis courts.

Due to its sports facilities, the park is popular amongst local students, an important part of the population who reside in the surrounding area of Headingley during the school year. In a wood close to the campus is a memorial commemorating Queen Victorias visit to the Leeds town hall in the 1858. There are also local shops, post offices, hairdressers, and pizza restaurants located in the area. Among the other attractions of this area are the vast woods and the nature trails, which have excellent views over the surrounding areas of Leeds.

The land was originally owned by Kirkstall Abbey, but following the dissolution of the monasteries, was leased by the Crown to a number of private individuals, who have made their homes on the site. This included a Grange called Newgrange. In 1752, it was replaced with new construction. In 1832, New Grange, consisting of house and grounds, was purchased by William Beckett, who made significant changes, changing its name to Kirkstall Grange. The Queen Victoria Arch is an echo of features of Williams home, and also the Town Hall.

A later member of the family, Ernest Beckett, sold the manor (then called Becketts Park) in 1908 to Leeds Corporation, which wanted to create a teaching college and a public park. The level ground on top of the hill, including The Grange, was retained for the college, while the hillside land southward was purchased from the Wades Charitable Trust in 1909, and leased by the Corporation in 1911 to create the public park. The park is still leased by the charity, with management being carried out by the Councils Parks Department.

The Leeds City Training College moved into the newly built buildings, and to the remaining west end of Kirkstall Grange, at Becketts Park, in 1912. During the first world war, they were used as hospital, only returning to the College in 1924. The buildings were also commandeered for hospital purposes during World War II. In 1970, the College became part of the University of Leeds Polytechnic, which became the Leeds Metropolitan University in 1993.

Leeds Metropolitan University was renamed Leeds Beckett University from September 2014: the chancellor, Sir Bob Murray, said: We would be extremely proud to adopt a new name for our university that is so strongly associated with the locations and the birthplaces of two of our important founding colleges. . This renaming was heavily promoted by the University, including a lot of new and altered signage around the town centre and in Headingley, as well as free hoodies being given out, all referencing the term Beckett–a far wider understanding of the Park.
