Intensive Driving Courses Guildford – Outskirts of Town

Situated on the outskirts of town you will find the Guildford driving test centre. Due to its location, you should expect the drive to incorporate a wide range of roundabouts. This will range from small mini-roundabouts in the residential roads to large multilane roundabouts leading onto dual carriageways.

The residential roads of Guildford can be tricky as many of them are quite narrow. Some of these narrow roads will have parked vehicles on both sides. You will need to actively look for gaps that you can pull into just in case you need to give way to oncoming vehicles.

Intensive Driving Courses Guildford – Carriageways

A road such as the A3 dual carriageway may be included in the driving test. This will depend on the time of day and traffic conditions. There is also a possibility of going further afield into the country lanes. These country lanes can be dangerous due to the high speeds and the sharp bends. Although the driving examiner will expect you make progress you must remember that safety is the priority at all times.

Pass Rate at Guildford Driving Test Centre

Guildford has an above average pass rate; 53.5%, compared to a UK average of 48%. This percentage is generated from 6 months worth of the pass rates for each month. For example, in the month of July 2016, 495 driving tests were attempted by pupils, from this 259 of them were passed by the examiners. Giving the test centre a pass rate of 52.3% for that month.

Even though the pass rate is high, examiners can still fail you if they believe your driving ability is not high enough, or that you are no safe enough on the road. If this is the case, you should take more lessons with a qualified instructor.

Driving test cancellations at Guildford will also show up when a learner driver who has a current appointment, decides to cancel it. The DVSA does not hold a cancellation list and is never done so. Towns you may come across on your Intensive Driving Course in Guildford –

Abinger

Abinger comprises both Abinger Common and Abinger Hammer and it is situated 10 miles south-east of Guildford. It is one of the oldest villages in England and dates back to the Stone Ages.

In the 1950s remains of a Masoltihic (Middle Stone Age) dwelling was uncovered in the grounds of the Manor House, which was behind the church and this was seen as evidence of the Stone Ages. The remains can be viewed and there is a small museum which houses the many flint tools which were discovered on the site.

Abinger Hammer

Abinger Hammer got its name from its 16th century iron forging industry and its stream powered hammer. This town is situated 8 miles south of Woking. Abinger Hammer’s industry has survived a very long time and is maintained in a clock; the clock dates back from 1909 which overhangs the main road. The clock itself has a blacksmith figure striking a bell with his hammer, which is used to strike the hours on a daily basis.

Albury

Albury was formerly known in Albury Park and the move was completed when Henry Drummond bought an estate (he was an MP and a wealthy banker in 1819). The present village of Albury was established in the 19th century after the magisterial orders began a process in 1784 which was not completed until the 19th century. Albury is known for its great architecture which was influenced by Pugin. His delightful chimneys are still in evidence today.

Artington

This town lies south of Guildford. It is known for its famous St Catherine’s Chapel and dates back to 1317; however the trees in the town have overgrown so tall that St Catherines Hill on which the ruins of the chapel are no longer easily seen by a passer by. This is a shame because those old sandstones have been a landmark for centuries.

Ash Green

There is an old building in Ash Green which is now used as a home for the elderly. The property is known as Ash Grange in Foreman Road which was built in 1820 for the Staffordshire pottery giant William Spode when he retired to the village.

Betchworth

Betchworth is a quiet town through which the River Mole meanders. This town is situated 10 miles southwest of Sutton. Back in the 16th century, there was a case of witchcraft in Betchworth; however, the defendant George Brockham, a clerk, was tried in his absence at Southwark Assizes in March 1576 and found not guilty. His alleged crime was that he bewitched a bull to death which was valued at £21.

Blackheath

Blackheath is popular with visitors and is a very beautiful place and is popular for their heathland walks and the countryside. It is tucked away behind Chilworth and Wonersh. One of their popular cricket grounds known as Blackheath Cricket Club is in its second century and its ground is among the best kept in the entire country.

Bowlhead Green

Bowlhead Green is 10 miles southwest of Guildford and is known for some of its beautiful lanes which sit between the A3 at Thursley and the A286 at Brook; people can travel to the northern slopes of Hindhead from this lane. Bowlhead Green is cut off from the parish of Thursley by the A3. The best way to enjoy the hamlet is on foot, either using the Greensand Way, which passes to north, or by a number of other paths which criss-cross the area and can lead on up to High Button, Harthill and Gibbet Hill.

Bramley

Bramley is a town where Women’s cricket was born. Although it has still not be accepted in some places regardless of the advances made towards sexual equality, Women’s cricket was born on Gosden Common which is beside the road into the village from Guildford.  There, in 1745 , the maids of Bramley played those from Hambledon, near Godalming, and not, as may be supposed, from the Hampshire village of the same name which will forever be associated with the early age of cricket.

Downside

Downside is very close to the M25 and the railway; this is why it is one of the most popular towns to the east of Woking and Guildford. This town is situated inside the orbital motorway and is linked to the ‘world beyond’ by the road to Effingham Junction Station.
