Mock Driving Test

Once you have reached a standard of driving where you and your driving instructor feels you’re ready to take your test, you might want to consider a mock test. This basically simulates what will happen on the day of your actual driving test. Your instructor will start the lesson in exactly the same way an examiner would start the test. The mock test will consist of the “show me – Tell me” questions, 20 minutes of independent driving, one reverse maneuver, and possibly the emergency stop exercise.

The mock test will usually start and finish at the Ashford Practical Driving Test Center and cover similar roads, dual carriageways, and roundabout that are used bu the local driving examiners.

Most learner drivers will be nervous before a practical driving test but this is natural as many do not know what to expect and doubt whether they are fully prepared. However, taking a mock test will prepare you for your real driving test as you would have driven under the exact condition during your mock test.

The main purpose of your mock driving test is to assess your driving ability under strict DVSA test conditions. Your DTC instructor is looking to see whether you are a safe driver, with full control of the vehicle while observing your ability to follow instructions both verbally and using a satnav.

Throughout the 35 to 40 minute drive, your instructor will examiner your driving ability to park and move off safely, and demonstrate a hill start or an angle start. You will be assessed on the way you deal with other road users including pedestrians, cyclists and other drivers.

At the end of your mock driving test at Ashford, the instructor will give you the result. You would be told whether you would have passed or failed if it was a genuine test. You would also be given the exact number of minor and major faults you might have accumulated and more importantly, how to correct the faults. Remember the mock test is a part of the process of preparing you for your actual test so the result is unimportant, so, you shouldn’t take your result too seriously.

The price of the mock test in Ashford is £120. This is a two-hour session. During the first hour, the instructor will conduct the mock test and the second hour will be used for the correction of mistakes, if any and to further improve your driving
