Making the Most of Cancelled Driving Lessons –

Cancellations are part and parcel of our businesses. We have all been left standing looking aimlessly when nobody answers the front doorbell. Sometimes we get the last minute cancellation just as we are about to pull up outside the pupil’s home. When this happens, the driving instructor has two choices.

Considering Cancelled Lessons as a Loss

Firstly they can consider it as lost revenue. The driving instructor can then get annoyed with the pupil and with themselves. They can unnecessarily raise their blood pressure. Furthermore, there will usually pop into the local petrol station and chocolate and a fizzy drink. After sitting in the car all day, the chocolate and the fizzy drink will only add insult to injury.

Make Money from Cancelled Lessons

Many driving instructors have a cancellation policy hidden away in their terms and conditions. However, this needs to be highlighted and emphasized to all pupils. Let’s assume that you charge £55 for a two-hour lesson. If you get a last minute cancellation, you’re actually £55 better off for doing nothing. You can also run a “late cancellation list.” Pupils who join this list can be offered the cancelled slot at a cheaper price.

Make the Most of Cancelled Lesson Time

Cancelled lessons are an inconvenience but should not be a waste of time. There are several ways that an instructor can utilise the time. It could involve cleaning the car or doing a bit of admin and booking keeping. If everything seems up to date, you could consider going for a brisk walk. Driving instructor sit for hours at a time which can’t be good for us. The brisk walk will get the heart pumping and give us a feel better.
